Take Measurements Of The Drainage Pipe:

Most drainage pipes come with the measurements labeled on the pipe, but just in case yours does not have it, then you have to measure the diameter of the pipe connected to the sump pump. Buy A Check Valve According To The Size Of Your Drainage Pipe:

The diameter of the valve is more important than the length of it. So when you are purchasing a valve, focus on the width. Your measurements can manually be noted by measuring the diameter of the pipe or in case of an old valve, simply check its size.

Other than the size, check for the different brands of the valve. Valves vary from 3.2 cm to 3.8 cm in diameter, so the right diameter size will help you out in picking the correct valve.

Buy The Necessary PVC Screws And Cement:

To install the valve, you must purchase a PVC pipe. It is highly recommended for a sump pump as it is a type of plastic that cannot be easily damaged and is waterproof. To install the valve on the pipe, you must purchase the following necessary fittings.

Go to a hardware store and get the following items for the installation;

  2. PVC couplings.
  3. PVC adapters.
  4. PVC cement.
  5. Cement applicator.

2. Operative Part:

The operative part is the first surgical part of the installation of the check valve. It must be followed stepwise with precautions to avoid any mishaps.

Switch Off The Pump Before Starting The Installation:

As you know, sump pumps are generated by electricity, so to install a check valve, you must switch off the pump to avoid any mishap.

You can do that by unplugging the cord of the sump pump.

But before deactivating, the sump pump allows it to drain all the water into the pit, so the water does not fall back when the pipe is opened.

Find The Location Of Your Pipe In The Wall Or Ground:

PVC Nuts To Be Fitted:

The next step is to fit PVC nuts on the edges of the pipes. They are equipped to avoid any leakage and hold the valve together. So they have to be installed first. Note that some check valves have metal clamps that act the same as the nuts and couplers in PVC. If your valve has metal clumps, then you need to adjust the tightening them.

PVC Couplers To Be Fitted:

Next step, adjust PVC couplers on top of the PVC nuts. These are small tubular-shaped connectors which connect the valve with the pipes each from both sides of the pipes. Screw these couplers to secure them.

Secure It With PVC Cement:

To keep the PVC fittings in place, apply a cement coating on to the PVC nuts and couplers to secure the connection of both pipes with the check valve. So there is no chance of leakage possible.

Install The Valve:

After the cement has been applied, install the valve and cement any connecting part of securing with a cement coating. Allow it to dry for 2 hours before operating the sump pump, so it is intact entirely.

3. Execution:

The last step is the execution of the whole installation process. You must execute the purpose you installed the check valve for.

Test Your Check Valve:

So now, finally, you can test your check valve by switching on your sump pump. Plug the cord of your sump pump and generate it to test whether or not the valve is successfully installed. As the water pressure increases, you will hear a flap inside the valve as it opens for the flow. Check for any leakage etc. like draining the water back to the pit. In that case, switch off your sump pump and fix the connections of the pipe and the valve.
