Causes of Low Water Pressure!

You have a house, and you didn’t face low water pressure at any point, nearly impossible. Indoor or outdoor, anywhere, anytime it could happen.

Many reasons could cause such casualty. But how do we determine the water pressure is below average? The ideal circulation is about 45 to 60 PSI on an average. So, if your water is running low, that clearly points, the water pressure is lower than the mentioned figure. And you must hurry to find the causes of low water pressure.

From shower to laundry or kitchen cleaning to washroom, we spend almost 300 gallons of water every day for all these household work. That’s also for single-family usage. Undoubtedly, these 300-gallon works will be affected if there is an issue in water volume.

And it’s annoying undoubtedly. Nevertheless, Most of us often failed to identify the reason, which is frustrating. Hence, it just lengthens the panic. Here, I have listed out some typical reasons that might cause the issue.

Reasons for a Decrease in Water Pressure:

Identifying the cause will help you to find out the remedies. Check this list of common causes, and you may find your suspected area:

House shut off valve open:

The primary shut off valve of the water line usually located inside the house. Closer to your city connection. Make sure your main valve is always open.

However, this main valve could be seen in two forms. One could be look-alike to a wheel. If your house owns such one, make sure it is fully turned to clockwise. If you can turn this wheel, clockwise obviously, this is the scene where your water has a barrier and dripless quantity.

The other shape is a ball valve with a lever. This lever handle will be in a parallel position of your water supply line. That ensures the perpetual flow of the water. If you find misplacement, the valve is not fully open.

On the contrary, the shut-off valve could be jammed for some reason, which can also hinder the water flow.

Pressure regulator failure:

The next familiar reason in my list is the pressure regulator failure. This pressure regulator controls heavy water flow to an optimum force that is ideal for your house.

As a result, your house is safe from any unwanted damage. Failing this regulator could results in both- increase or decrease the water level through the pipe.

Ultimately you can face entirely opposite consequences—either a severe rise or a sudden downgrade of water.

Expired Fixture:

Expired fixture? And what is that? These fixtures are the joints that your faucets have. It will decay over time with mineral deposits and build up rust or sediment around the joint.

Eventually, it blocks the water flow to the course. This not only takes off the water flow but also impact the water quality of your house.

This kind of issue causes low drifting in few points likely one to three.

Clogged pipes:

We all are usually with a clogged drain. But believe it or not, clogged water pipes are similarly dangerous. Even a tiny clog can sweat you up with the water pressure.

Because these clogs certainly could be anywhere beneath the house. You will definitely be fatigued while finding the exact point. Moreover, it’s not wise to dig the whole line for a tiny clog.

Corroded Pipeline:

Do your house uses older piping, or you update it recently? In both cases, what is the material?

Pipes has an expiration time, especially the galvanized one. In fact, only within 20 years galvanized pipes start facing corrosion.

Copper pies, on the other hand, get 50 years in such accidents whereas brass pipes have the maximum life—anywhere near 40 to 70 years.

Unfortunately, you can’t find the corrosion from outside. You can only guess from the age of the house and types of material. City records or previous homeowner could tell you about this.

Shared pipelines:

If your house has shared distribution, it’s prevalent to meet the low water pressure. Why? If your neighbor is using the washing machine and you are having a bath at the same time, there is no way out to avoid the short pass out. Yet one of the root causes of low water pressure.

You cannot start arguing with your neighbor, instead find a permanent solution for this. Try to plumb out a new set up, keeping aside this distributed line.

Leaking pipes:

If your water flow is caused for a leaking pipe, this will take years to find out. We often forget to take a look at the water pipes unless a severe problem arises. Honestly, dripping a drop or two might not have a visual impact, but it misdirects the flow.

Besides, this near to unseen leaks extends by days and starts dribbling the water to a great extent. These large leaks are capable enough to cut down the water flow.

Now, how could you know your water pipes leak? You can off the main water valve. Still, you see your water pressure gauge spins? Else, you surely have a leak on the line.

Honestly, these leakage lines are dangerous, like any accident your house has. They unsteady your home foundation to the core, and I haven’t mentioned the sudden flooding after a water burst.

The issue in supply line:

You are facing a water problem and probably your neighbor as well. Then pretty much chances are that this is not your household issue. Your local water supplier may be facing some emergency. And that’s the ultimate reason. But to be confirmed, make a call to them and get the clearance of it.

There are some other general reasons for low water pressure. Common but not ignorable. You can find your reason also among the casuals:

I have listed most of the reasons I could think of, and I also faced it earlier in my house or my mom’s. I don’t think of any different possible reasons for low water pressure. But there’s always a possibility, you know. Maybe a new recent problem can cause your low water influence.

Fixing the Issues:

Anyway, whatever be the reason, it needs a fix urgently. No worries. If I start listing the problem, I can drive you to the remedies surely – how do you fix low water pressure? With all the possible solutions in a row.

1 House shut off valve fix:

Now, what you could do if the shut-off valve is half-open? Or jammed? You don’t need research for that. If you find out the valve is not in a position as it should be, let it place like before.

Make the gear valve move clockwise until it reaches the last twist. On the other hand, if it’s a ball valve, only the lever handle needs to be parallel of the line, after doing this check if the water gets the desired flow.

Well, if the valve gets jammed, clean the debris around the valve with a scrapper. In most of the cases, it’s the stuck dirt mites that clogged the valve. After cleaning the clog, pour edible oil a drop or two. Move the valve a few times, and you will find it as it is.

If it’s totally out of order, what to say. Call a plumber and change immediately.

2 Fix pressure regulator:

If the fault is in a pressure regulator, you might face the failure all of a sudden. Before that, you get the signal through the wrong figure. It seems your water dripping is low, and your pressure gauge shows the accurate number.

Mostly you can fix this part changing it. And apparently, you can do it by yourself. But it’s wise to do such a fixture by a professional if you are not used to it. Replacing it may require shut off your full set up for 1 or two hours.

3 Repair the old fixture:

If you notice any rust or sediment, remove the aerator and see if it needs cleaning. If there is a trace of the dirt, clean it with a brush. Or else you can also use the chemical remover if it’s a little hard. Pour the liquid and spread. Wait for a few moments. After that, you can brush and clean.

Once the aerator is completely clear, attach them back and test if the water got previous force.

4 Clogged pipes:

A small clog can make you sweat like hell. It’s enough to reduce the pressure in water flow. But honestly, the solution is also a painful one. Because these clogs could be anywhere in your pipeline, and you are just checking blindly.

Similarly, the worst thing will be falling apart pipes.

Yes, the best possible solution could be harsh chemicals to drain the obstacle. But it should be the least advisable solution I would suggest. I would not like any chemical in my water that is for drinking also.

Better we should take professional advice in this regard.

5 Change corrode pipes:

We already know about the pipe lifetime. If you face your water problem, for this reason, the best thing would be cutting it out because repairing it may extend your expense. In the future, it will be a problem for sure. It will be stressed and corrode faster.

So, don’t hesitate to replace the affected area and see the impact. Besides, if you find your whole set up needs to be changed, don’t step back, I would suggest. It’s right in a sense. You could add or repair your new set up according to your choice.

6 Change line distribution:

Sharing is good, but not always. If the shared line causes minimal water in your tap, no way you continue with the line. Ask your local authority for an entirely separate line. You cannot always gauge on your neighbor.

Whenever they rest, you start working. Better make a permanent solution by separating the water pipe. Go for a good plumbing company and be peaceful for the rest of your life.

7 Leakage management:

A leaking pipe doesn’t leave any choice but to mending. As soon as you locate the wet area, figure out the quick fix.

At the very first step, shut off the water line and then dry the outside area. Wipe off extra moisture around the leakage. Then wrapping with a rubber patch will be perfect for hiding the crack. Use a repair clamp to attach the patch to the duct.

But it’s a temporary solution, of course. You can use quick fix glue as well. But make sure it dried out properly before you start the line. Still, facing the water problem? You are likely dealing with more than one leakage on the line. Check carefully and mend it.

8 Contact your supplier:

When your supplier is facing issues, there is nothing you could do except calling them and inform about facing water issues. You have to wait and tolerate the situation until they fix their problem.

Apart from this, all the handy solution to your problem, technology is more advanced now. Plumbing companies use a fiber-optic video line to find out the inside problems without digging, drilling or breaking down.

9 Use pump:

If you live in higher land and your city supplies water through grounded lines, it is very usual then to have low water pressure all the time. Only the right water pump could help you in such a situation. It will suck water and increase the stream as you like.

10 Adjust your work schedule:

When you identify that you have ample water force all the time except in the morning or evening and for a few moments. Adjust your schedule as per the time. Watering the garden or using a washing machine can be replaced with any other house chores. Think about it.

Some Issues to Consider:

What Causes Low Water Pressure?

Conclusion

Facing low water pressure is very common, and you can have it anywhere anytime. Nothing except your household work will have minimal impact. So never run after a hostile step. At first think, then act and have happy solution aftermath. I don’t think you would find some reason for low after pressure. Still, life teaches you many new things always. Let’s hope for the best.
